Hearing and Cognitive Health.

Did you know that if you leave hearing loss untreated, you are putting your cognitive function at risk? Research shows many links between hearing and cognitive health. When your hearing diminishes, your brain has to work harder to keep up, and when combined with less social engagement, this leads to an increased risk of cognitive decline.  The risk of cognitive decline is why Monkey Mouths encourages all adults to take a quick cognitive screening test to asses their cognitive function as a component of their hearing evaluation.

Cognivue Thrive.

At Monkey Mouths, we utilize Cognivue, a 5-minute self-administered computerized screening tool, to conduct brief cognitive screenings. This tool focuses on three cognitive domains: memory, visuospatial, and executive function. Memory refers to your ability to recall information, visuospatial refers to your ability to locate where sounds are coming from, and executive function refers to your ability to hear in a noisy environment. Once the test is completed, our audiologists will provide you with a detailed report outlining your performance and how it impacts your daily activities. We will share this information with your general practitioner if desired, so they remain up to date with your health.

Protect Your Cognitive Health.

If your cognitive screening results indicate cognitive decline concerns, there are potential ways to slow down this decline. Studies have shown that therapies and interventions designed to manage hearing loss, such as using hearing aids and hearing protection, can have a positive impact on your cognitive health.  Not only can hearing aids improve your ability to communicate with others, but they can also protect your brain and reduce the risk of developing neurological decline later in life.
